Sebbene sia simile a una medusa, la Porpita porpita è in realtà una colonia di polipi appartenenti alla classe Hydrozoa, poco urticante. Normalmente vive in mare aperto in corrispondenza della superficie, ma il vento e le correnti possono avvicinarla a riva, come in questo caso avvistata nei pressi della Riserva Naturale dello Stato "Le Cesine" dall'amico Mario Congedo, il 27 ottobre 2017.

Although similar to a jellyfish, Porpita porpita is actually a colony of polyps belonging to the Hydrozoa class, not very stinging. It normally lives in the open sea at the surface, but the wind and currents can bring it closer to the shore, as in this case sighted near the "Le Cesine" State Nature Reserve by our friend Mario Congedo, on 27 October 2017
